1) You like pretty things
2) You like words of wisdom and/or random funny stuff from the Internet.
Safe bet, right? Everyone likes pretty things.
As for enjoying words of wisdom and stuff from the Internet - you're reading a lifestyle blog, after all. This is like, what we do.
In my room, even though I'm incredibly tight on space, I have an extra monitor on my desk. I had one back in college, with an enormous old CRT monitor that I bought from my favorite professor for $6. The thing was a beast - but it worked well and it served my purpose of technological gluttony. I was so disappointed when a catfight in my apartment resulted in one of my cats peeing on it (slightly long story - but I'm convinced he didn't intend to, it was just pure fright) and I had to get rid of it. My current monitor is a 19" Acer flatscreen. I got it for free from my best friend, who got it for free from her sister. And I LOVE IT and would probably fight someone for it.
Where am I going with this? Well, my extra monitor has three major uses.
What I Use My Extra Monitor For:
1) cross-referencing documents when I need multiple things open at once (admittedly, this is what it gets used the least for)
2) playing movies and TV shows, because it's a lot larger than my laptop screen
3) a display of my various computer backgrounds
This is my thing - as I travel around through the Internet, I find a lot of funny, pretty, and/or inspirational pictures. I usually think to myself, "Wow, that's really good. I wish I could look at that every day." Eventually it occurred to me - DUH! I have Windows 7. It's super easy to make my desktop images rotate.
Have Windows 7 but don't know how to do this? Here's Microsoft's tutorial. Don't have Windows 7? I've found some programs for Windows, Mac, and even Linux. Please note: I take no responsibility for the content of these programs, and their presence is not a recommendation. I've never used these, this is what I found through a quick Google search. If you would like something else, feel free to Google (or Bing or whatever) "desktop changer (operating system)"
I recently found where I got some of mine from, and found some new ones I'll be adding into the rotation, and I thought I'd share. It's a really quick and easy way to entertain yourself, provoke thought, and brighten your day. Don't feel like it needs to fit your monitor perfectly - I view the black space around the images as a frame.
Two sites that have a lot of different options for you are SayingImages.com and WordsOverPixels.com - and of course, there's always Pinterest! I've found all of the following through these. If you like one, click on it and it'll take you there. Caution: WordsOverPixels tends to have NSFW language. I tried to pick out some of the better images around but you might not want to click over if you have bosses and/or children who can read around.

I first started using an extra monitor for work and now its hard to operate on a desktop without it!
